Overview

Selene shows where the Moon is and what it is doing: its phase on a live dial, its sign to the arcminute, how lit, how old and how far away it is, moonrise and moonset for your city, the next Full and New Moon to the minute, and every aspect it makes to the planets.

Add your birth date, time and city and it reads the Moon in your own chart: its house tonight, your birth Moon on a natal-and-transit wheel, your progressed Moon, and the nakshatra and mansion you were born under. The readings are written into the app, not generated. Every screen comes in three themes: midnight, neutral dark and pearl day.

Three themes

A calmer face for the Moon.

One typeface, flat panels with thin borders and a deeper midnight palette, so the sky is what you notice: the Moon in its ring, this lunation's light as a curve and the signs in their element colours. Pick the theme that suits the hour.

  • Moon in a ring

The live Moon, lit for the exact phase angle with earthshine on its dark side, sits in a thin ring with a tick at each quarter. A dot marks where it is in the cycle.

  • Moonlight curve

This lunation's illumination as a curve, with New, First Quarter, Full and Last Quarter marked and a line for now.

  • Four sky diagrams

Illumination, age, distance and degree in sign, each drawn as a small diagram with its exact value underneath.

  • Element colours

Signs are coloured by element: fire orange, earth green, air blue, water violet. The chart wheel keeps them, softer.

  • Zodiac switch

Tropical or sidereal in one tap from the top bar. The other methods are in Settings, and the tabs sit along the bottom, the active one as a soft pill.

  • Settings holds the rest

Themes, calculation method, your location and birth details, Data & Privacy, Reference and the newsletter box are all in Settings, so Main ends with Planets Now.

Deep dive

Made for moon watchers.

Every picture in this section is a crop of a real Selene screen, with sample birth data (New York, July 15, 1990, 14:30).

01 — Tonight's Moon

The sky tonight, on one screen.

Main opens on the live sky: the Moon lit for its exact phase angle, with earthshine on its dark side, in a thin ring with a tick at each quarter and a dot for where it is in the cycle. Under it come the Moon's sign and degree, with a strip for how far through the sign it is, then this lunation's moonlight curve and four small diagrams for illumination, age, distance and degree.

Selene's Live sky panel for Tue, Oct 6 at 21:30: a waning crescent Moon inside a thin ring with a tick at each quarter, a light arc running clockwise from the top round to a dot near the top left, then Current Moon Sign Leo at 29°12' with a 0° to 30° strip filled almost to Virgo

02 — Supermoons

Never miss a supermoon.

Main gives moonrise and moonset for your city and counts down to the next Full and New Moon. When the Full Moon is a supermoon it gets a pink Supermoon tag. The Calendar lists the next four with their distance from Earth and how much brighter they look than an average Full Moon, and stars the closest Full Moon of each year. Every Full Moon day in the calendar shows the Moon's distance.

Main tab on Wed Nov 18, 2026: moonrise 13:14 and no moonset that day in New York City, then a pink Supermoon tag for Tue, Nov 24, 09:54, 5d 21h away, and New Moon Tue, Dec 8, 19:52, 20d 7h away
In the app · Main, Wed Nov 18, 2026: the next Full Moon is super
Upcoming Supermoons: Nov 24, 2026 at 360,754 km, opened to show it is about 14% brighter than an average Full Moon, then Dec 23, 2026 and Jan 22, 2027 starred as the closest of their years, and Feb 20, 2027

03 — Eclipses

Eclipses, in your time.

The next six lunar eclipses with type, date, the Moon's sign and how much of it the shadow covers. Open one for the peak time where you are, whether the Moon is above your horizon, and a reading. The list opens by itself when an eclipse is less than 30 days away.

Upcoming Lunar Eclipses: penumbral eclipses on Feb 20, Jul 18 and Aug 17, 2027, partial eclipses on Jan 11 and Jul 6, 2028, and the total eclipse of Dec 31, 2028 opened: Total Lunar Eclipse (Blood Moon) in Cancer, peak Sun, Dec 31, 2028, 11:51 your time, Moon below the horizon in New York City

04 — Aspects

Who the Moon is talking to.

Aspects are colour-coded as in the app: green for sextiles and trines, rose for squares and oppositions, gold for conjunctions. Each shows its orb and a bar for how exact it is, and opens a reading. Below them, Planets Now lists every body by sign and degree, and the sign tracker counts down to the Moon's next sign.

Aspects to the Moon, 2 active aspects: Moon trine Chiron with a full green bar, orb 0.0°, 100% exact, and Moon square Uranus with a short rose bar, orb 6.2°, 23% exact

A month of Moons at a glance.

Every day shows its phase as a drawn Moon and the Moon's sign in its element colour, and each quarter falls on its exact day with the time. Tap a day for illumination, distance, moonrise and moonset, then a reading of the Moon in that sign and phase with favoured and less favourable activities and gardening and planting advice.

06 — Two mansion systems

Nakshatras and manazil, side by side.

The Vedic tab follows the 27 nakshatras in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, whatever method you use elsewhere. The Arabic tab follows the 28 tropical manazil from 0° Aries. Both show when the Moon moves on, the mansion you were born under, and a reading. The Vedic tab adds the tithi, the lunar day.

Transit Nakshatra: Magha, The Mighty / The Throne, pada 2 of 4, 4°58' into the mansion, sidereal 4°58' Leo, until Wed 12:10; Tithi Krishna Dwadashi, waning day 12 of 15, until Wed 13:47; then symbol Throne / Royal Chamber, deity Pitris (The Ancestors), lord Ketu, gana Rakshasa, animal Rat (male), motivation Artha, body part lips and chin, dasha 7 years (Ketu)

In the app · Arabic, Al Sarfah until Wed 06:23
07 — Your birth Moon

Your Moon, then and now.

Enter your birth date, time and city once. The Chart tab draws your birth Moon and tonight's sky on one wheel, labelled NATAL and NOW, with the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant and Imum Coeli and a reading for each; tap the wheel to zoom in. The Progress tab places your progressed Moon on a ring of the zodiac, a day after birth for each year of life, with your natal Moon's sign in gold, and gives the month it enters its next sign.

The Chart tab's natal and transit wheel in whole sign houses: the zodiac ring in element colours, natal and current planets with NATAL and NOW labels, aspect lines in the centre and a legend for conjunction, trine, sextile, square and opposition
In the app · Chart, natal and transit wheel
Progressed Moon in Virgo at 3°35' on a ring of the zodiac, with the natal Moon's sign marked in gold; currently transiting the 11th house, age 36, natal Moon in Aries; next chapter: enters Libra around October 2028, at age 38

FAQ

Questions.

When can I get Selene?

Selene isn't in the stores yet. It's coming soon to Google Play and the App Store.

How much does it cost?

The price will be announced at launch. There's no subscription, no ads and nothing to buy inside the app.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every calculation runs on your phone, including moonrise and moonset, which use a city you pick from the app's own list instead of GPS. Only the optional newsletter signup uses the internet.

Do I need to enter my birth details?

No. Without them you still get the Moon now, the calendar, eclipses, supermoons and the current nakshatra and mansion; pick a city for moonrise and moonset. Your birth date, time and city add the Chart and Progress tabs, your birth nakshatra and mansion, and the Moon's house in your chart. The birth time is optional.

Which zodiac does Selene use?

Tropical by default. The switch in the top bar flips between tropical and sidereal with the Lahiri ayanamsa, and Settings has draconic, heliocentric and the true or mean node. The Vedic tab is always sidereal and the Arabic tab always tropical, as their traditions are.

Can I change how it looks?

Yes. Settings has three themes: Selene, a deep midnight and the default; Graphite, a neutral dark; and Light, pearl and lavender for daytime.

How accurate is it?

Very. Every phase, position and eclipse time is checked against independent astronomical references, so the numbers you see are ones you can trust.

What counts as a supermoon?

A Full Moon at least 90% of the way from apogee to perigee, the definition Fred Espenak tabulates. Selene shows its distance from Earth and how much brighter it looks than an average Full Moon.

Does Selene collect my data?

No. Your birth details, location and settings stay on your phone, and there are no accounts, ads or analytics. If you join the newsletter, your email goes to LD Coda's newsletter service. The privacy policy has the details.
